HIFU...High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
In this course we are working with HIFU as a noninvasive aesthetic procedure. HIFU can be used for both facial treatments and body contouring. A HIFU procedure uses ultrasound to create heat at a deep level in the skin. This heat damages targeted skin cells, causing the body to try to repair them. To do this, the body produces collagen to aid in cell regrowth.
Specifically, the HIFU targets the Super-facial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) layer. SMAS refers to the deep tissue layer below the dermis. The HIFU technology encourages the cells to produce new collagen, allowing the skin to increase firmness and elasticity. Collagen building takes time, therefore optimal results are seen anywhere from 2 months to 6 months post-treatment.
